Portland Regional Metro | 2050 Proposal

Last Updated: January 2023

Throughout the years I have drafted several iterations of a rapid transit network for Portland. In this proposal, the regions network is divided into three seperate transit types; Metro, Tramways, and Regional Rail.

1. Metro, this system would be autonomous and would serve as the backbone of a transit network that maintains frequencies of 3-6 minutes across the network. This is a Three-Line system; A Line, B Line, & Powell Line. The system would be a conversion of MAX light rail on the Hwy26/I-84/I-205 Corridors to an autonomous metro system. New build areas include TV Hwy, Hwy 217 corridor, and Hwy 224 corridors. This plan is contingent on the MAX tunnel getting built under the central city.

2. Tramways, this system would be aimed at neighborhood connections and would maintain an emphasis on improving tram corridors as destinations in their own right. This is a Six-Line system; T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, & T6.

3. Regional Rail, this system would leverage existing rail corridors to create a network that is more cost-effective to link to the edge areas of the metro area. This is a Three-Line system; Line 1, Line 2, & Line 3.
