Cargo Block

Cargo Block/SE 8th and Division Pl. - 2018

This formally vacant lot in the inner eastside industrial area of Portland was one that I frequented a lot. On this empty parcel of land nestled between a oddly shaped site, light rail, heavy rail, bike paths and bus only streets; was a single shipping container and a tree.

From here I began to abstract what a dense mixed use development formed by light and small alleyways could be like. I modeled my concept loosely off of the unorganized fluidity of the late Kowloon Walled City. In all the concept had only a single core that was bridged together via a complex web of bridges and pathways that created unique floor patters for each level.
